Montana Fishing License
Every angler fishing with us needs a valid Montana fishing license. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) sells them online in about five minutes — no account required.
Grab yours before your trip if you can. It saves us a stop on the way to the water.
Who needs one
Anyone 12 or older. Kids 11 and under fish free, though the same season and catch limits apply to them as to everyone else in the boat.
What to buy
Montana sells three separate items and you need all three: a Conservation License, an AIS Prevention Pass, and the fishing license itself. FWP's checkout walks you through them in order, so it's simpler than it sounds.
Short-term licenses are sold by the day if you're only here for the trip. Season licenses run March 1 through the end of February — not twelve months from the day you buy.
Bring it with you
Carry it on the water; on your phone is fine. A warden can ask to see it, and it's yours to produce rather than ours.
